Calvin Owens has the distinction of being called "maestro" by his peers in the blues. That's because in addition to being a nonpareil of a trumpet player Owens is also an innovative bandleader and arranger. A player in B. B. King's band in the 50's, Owens returned as B.B.'s bandleader in the 70's and 80's. This CD, recorded in the mid-90's, showcases Owens' bright and accomplished trumpet work in front of an orchestra with a big, full sound. Jazz infusions abound.
