MISSISSIPPI JOHN HURT Memorial Anthology 2-CD set

Hurt is a songster of legendary stature today, but until he was "rediscovered" in the 1960's, he was virtually unknown, playing for friends at picnics in his native Mississippi. This never-before released material was recorded live in 1964 at a coffeehouse in Washington D.C. and its fidelity is remarkable. Hurt's mastery of the complex ragtime-influenced finger-pickin' guitar is wonderfully showcased here, as is his relaxed vocal style that gave his playing a gentle, no-worries feel. Includes a half-hour interview with Hurt conducted by Pete Seeger.

"Every self-respecting...person that is even remotely interested in the blues and its colorful roots and history owes it to themselves to listen to Mississippi John Hurt." - Chicago Blues
