This is Roy's first ever recording, made live in 1971 at the Crossroads where he was the house band. Roy wanted to capture what he was doing nightly and this result, recorded on 2- track quarter-inch reel to reel, is really a snapshot of that moment. Although Roy's Tele playing never strayed far from its roots in country and traditional blues, it took these idioms into a new dimension. This CD contains all of the tortured reaching and viciously hard notes that Roy was famous for. The sound quality may be unpolished but it is undeniably what you would have heard sitting 3 seats back.
