In the mid-1960's when he was in his late teens, Brooklyn-born Paul Oscher joined the Muddy Waters Blues Band, taking the harmonica slot formerly held by the great Little Walter and James Cotton. The Blues was still a music played mostly in black clubs and juke joints, and Paul travelled this circuit all over the country with Muddy. He mastered piano and guitar looking over the shoulders of the acknowledged greats of the blues -- Otis Spann, then Pinetop Perkins on piano, and Muddy Waters, Sammy Lawhorn and Luther "Snake" Johnson on guitar. Paul stayed with the Muddy Waters Blues Band through the early 1970s, and recorded a number of Chess albums with Muddy, including the classic "Live At Mr. Kelly's." He also appeared on recordings with other bluesmen, including Johnny Young and Louisiana Red. Since his stint with Muddy, Paul has been working steadily around the country under the name Brooklyn Slim, playing guitar, harmonica and piano. His band is a who's who of blues veterans, including alumni from T-Bone Walker's and Freddie King's bands, and his shows invariably attract renowned guest artists who sit in for a dose of the real thing. A 1994 reunion tour of the Muddy Waters Blues Band gleaned Paul outstanding reviews across the country, and Paul's appearances at blues festivals have gained him renewed recognition and respect. Paul's no nonsense, deep gutbucket sound retains the power that made Chicago blues the heaviest sound around, and it has created a Paul Oscher fans around the world. "Rough Stuff" was recorded live with Muddy Waters Blues Band alumni Pinetop Perkins and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith. Paul also sings some great blues accompanying himself only with a guitar, a piano, a harp and/or an accordian.
