Check back here next month for Wild Child's upcoming tour schedule.
The hypnotic swamp blues of Alabama, the driving urban Sounds of Chicago, harp playing that tears a hole in your soul and a baritone voice as deep and dark as a river bottom - these are the blues being served up "wild style" on Lickin' Gravy. Wild Child was renown in the 50's and 60's in the juke joints of his native Alabama, but it wasn't until he started performing in Chicago that he was taken up by the legendary Willie Dixon and later toured with Jimmy Rogers and Lightnin' Hopkins. This material --originally recorded in the 70's and 80's but never before released on CD-- is heavy: full of tension, with harp playing that conjures up the ghost of Sonny Boy Williamson and singing that squeezes the vowels so hard they might bleed.
"This southern harmonica man and singer makes music that positively swelters with feeling" - Edmonton Journal
